Polymers and Special Resins

Picture of Optical Grade Resin New packing line housed in purpose built environment In collaboration with main contractor K.Home International, Webster Griffin worked with engineers from Asahi Glass Fluoropolymers UK and Japan to design and build this Turn Key sack packing system.

Initially undertaking concept design, Webster Griffin were appointed to carryout detailed mechanical & electrical engineering and project management of the complete sack and bulk box packing plant.

Bagging line for polymers Asahi Glass Fluoropolymers UK a subsidiary of the Asahi Glass Company of Japan, with a $12 billion turnover from the global manufacture of glass and speciality chemicals.

The plant at its Asahi Glass Fluoropolymers UK site in Thornton Cleveleys, was established to manufacture the fluorinated resin ETFE, used as insulating material for electrical wiring and as a raw material in the production of films.

Packed with innovation

Control panel for packing machine AGC quality standards demanded a state of the art packing facility for optical resins - hygiene and cleanliness being paramount.

The Webster Griffin design facilitates quick internal inspection and easy, regular cleaning to avoid any possibility of cross contamination between different batches, while electronic loadcell weighing ensures high accuracy at all stages of the process and that minimum product is given away.

ETFE is used in automotive and construction applications, for example the company's ETFE film has been used in the construction of the new Allianz Arena football stadium in Munich.

AGC Resin helps build Allianz Arena football stadium Munich The new ETFE production plant was constructed adjacent to the existing PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) facility in Thorton Cleveleys UK for an investment of approx US $24 million.

The new plant will be the AGC Chemical Division's largest investment outside of Japan since it purchased the fluorinated resin business in Europe and the US from ICI in 1999.
